Earl O. Beitzel

Earl O. Beitzel, age 92, of New Philadelphia, died Friday, August 24, 2012, in Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health.

A son of the late Charles H. and Matilda M. (Trachsel) Beitzel, Earl was born on July 30, 1920 at New Philadelphia, Ohio.

He attended the Gribble and Ankey one-room school house and then entered into the United States Army in October of 1942. Earl proudly served his country in the Pacific Theatre during World War II and obtained the rank of T-4 Sergeant prior to his discharge in December of 1945.

After completing his military service, he began his professional career as a truck driver, working for Motor Freight and ultimately retiring from Valley Mining.

On August 9, 1952, Earl married the former Priscilla Ann Everett and as a couple, raised six children. Earl was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, who treasured spending time with his family.

His faith was nurtured at the First Assembly of God Church at New Philadelphia where he participated in the Young at Heart group.

Mowing his yard, gardening, reading and watching Westerns, and following the Cleveland Browns and Indians were past times Earl also enjoyed.

In addition to his wife of 60 years, Earl is survived by a daughter, Stephanie (Scott) Boli of North Canton; four sons, Steve (Christine) Beitzel of New Philadelphia, Tim (Lori) Beitzel of Bolivar, Todd (Holly) Beitzel of Dover and Matthew (Gail) Beitzel of Boise, Idaho; 20 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Harry (Irene) Beitzel of Navarre.

In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by a daughter, Amy Beitzel, three sisters, and four brothers.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday August, 28, 2012 from 5 to 8 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Larry Fletcher will lead a service celebrating Earl’s life in the funeral home’s chapel on Wednesday 2012 at 11 am. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia where the New Philadelphia V.F.W. will render military honors.

Friends and family will share a meal in the First Assembly of God following the committal service.
