E. Lucille Mutti

E. Lucille Mutti, age 98, of the Stone Creek Valley, died peacefully on Friday morning, August 31, 2012.

The daughter of the late Frederick J. Ladrach and his wife, Etta (Rosenberry) Ladrach, she was born on October 23, 1913, in their home on Crooked Run Road.

A 1932 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, she became a live-in housekeeper for several employers including the Reeves and Spies families.

She met Emmet Mutti of Stonecreek valley at a church youth gathering (Christian Endeavor) and they were married on May 31, 1937.

Five children were born to their marriage. They raised their family while they purchased and managed the Mutti Dairy Farm on Route 21, Stonecreek. Lucille and Emmet were leaders and supporters in a variety of agricultural, community, church, and school organizations both in York Township and Tuscarawas County, including the Farm Bureau, Volunteer Fire Department, Homemakers, 4-H, Soil Conservation, and Holstein Association. Lucille was honored as “Homemaker of the Year” in Tuscarawas County in 1986.

A dedicated member of Jerusalem Church, she participated in the Women’s Guild, Rebecca Circle, Adult Bible Class, kitchen committee, and quilting group, remaining active into her early 90’s. She was a devoted wife and helpmate to her husband of 56 years, a beloved mother and mother-in-law to their 5 children and their spouses, grandmother to 11 grandchildren, great grandmother to 20, and great-great grandmother to 1.

She was a wonderful cook and baker—her cookie jar, which had a familiar ring when opened, was rarely empty! She was a resourceful seamstress and a careful quilter. A faithful correspondent, she hand wrote thousands of letters and cards to family and friends. She was a genuine friend and a good neighbor. She was a survivor of the early 50’s polio epidemic, a testament to her personal strength, courage, and perseverance. Her rich legacy is defined by a deeply rooted Christian faith, a well worn Bible, a large circle of friendships, and a growing family which frequently gathers from near and far to encircle her in a spirit of reunion, celebration, honor, and gratitude. In the spirit of Proverbs 31, “her children rise up and call her blessed, her husband also praises her.”

Her home was the Stonecreek Valley until 2007 when she moved to the Country Club Retirement Campus, and later to Hennis Nursing Center in 2011.

Gratefully she experienced both as communities of new life and care and continuing joy.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, by 2 infant sisters, Helen and Florence, by brothers, Ben (1990) and Marcus (2002) Ladrach, by her husband, Emmet (1993), by their daughter and son-in-law, Pauline (2007) and Bill Staneart (2001).

She is survived by her sister, Thelma Harstine; 2 sons, Vernon Mutti and his wife Rachel, Calvin Mutti and his wife Karen; 2 daughters, Edna Pfeiffer, and her husband, Fred, Arline Sarley, and her husband, Dick; 10 grandsons, Kevin, Keith, and Michael Mutti, Brian, Brad and Brent Pfeiffer, Derek and Jonathan Sarley, Tom and Sean Staneart; and 1 granddaughter, Marci Mutti Dlutowski, and their spouses; by 20 great grandchildren and 1 spouse, and 1 great-great grandchild. Numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.

Friends are invited to call Friday, September 7, from 2-4 and from 6-8 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory, 116 Second Street NE, New Philadelphia.

Her body will be buried beside her husband in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia in a private family service.

All are invited to attend a Service of Christian Memorial Saturday morning, September 8, at 10:30 in Jerusalem Church, 1417 Stonecreek Road, SW, New Philadelphia, with Rev. Frank Sapp, Jr. officiating.

Immediately following the service the family would like to invite guests to join them for a luncheon in the church social hall.
