E. Jane Seeman

E. Jane Seeman, age 85, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully following a period of declining health on Saturday, November 13, 2010.Jane, was born at Brooklyn, New York on December 27, 1924. She was a daughter of the late Eugene J. and Irene E. Wendebaum Seeman.Although legally blind, Jane overcame her adversity and worked to obtain a bachelor of education degree from Hartwick College at Oneonta, New York and later continued her education at New York University ultimately receiving a Master’s of Religious Education.For a number of years, Jane taught religious education through out Lutheran Parishes at Flushing, New York, Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and Cranford, New Jersey before relocating to New Philadelphia in 1960. Upon her move to New Philadelphia, she taught a weekday religious program for the New Philadelphia Council of Churches. Ms. Seeman, as she was known to her students, later co-directed and taught at the Happy Day Christian Day Care and Preschool with her longtime friend and companion, Ms. Esta Doerres.Jane was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at New Philadelphia and was an active member of the Martin Luther Sunday School Class and the Rebecca Circle.Jane is survived by a brother, David (Barbara) Seeman of Avenue, Maryland; a niece, Elizabeth Rhodes of Midlothian, Virginia; and a nephew, David B. Seeman, Jr. of Hockessin, Delaware.In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by a niece, Ellen Jane Booker.In keeping with Jane’s wishes cremation will take place. Reverend Stephen L. Patrick will lead a memorial service celebrating Jane’s life on Saturday, November 20, 2010, at 10:30 AM in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at New Philadelphia. Following the service, the family would like to invite guests to join them in the church social hall where a meal and fellowship will be shared.Those wishing to do so may share stories or send the family personal condolences by signing the online guest registry located on the funeral home’s website.Memorial contributions in Jane’s name may be directed to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church 202 East High Avenue, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
