Dwaine Thomas Shonk

Dwaine Thomas Shonk, age 69, of Dover, died Wednesday, November 14, 2012, in Union Hospital at Dover.

A son of the late Edward H. and Elizabeth A. (Blunt) Shonk, Dwaine was born at Zoarville, Ohio on August 17, 1943.

He attended Tusky Valley High School and served as a member of the National Guard. Dwaine later joined the Fairfield Brick Company and worked as a Setter for 20 years prior to retiring.

In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, following NASCAR, demolition derbies and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He is survived by his children, Donita (JR) Jones, Dee Shonk all of New Philadelphia, Deb (Don) Mooney of Dover and Dale (Vickie) Shonk of Midvale; two sisters, Evelyn Nill of Dover and Pauline Cutchall of Somerdale; two brothers, Kenny (Jane) Shonk of Strasburg, and Robert (Helen) Shonk of Dover and his caregiver and close friend, Sue Gardner of Dover. Completing the family are numerous grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dwaine was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Shonk.

The family will host an informal gathering honoring Dwaine’s life on Saturday, November 17, 2012 from 2:00 – 5:00 PM in the Bisel United Methodist Church, 3108 Bisel Church Road NW, Dover, Ohio 44622. In keeping with Dwaine’s wishes cremation care will be conducted by Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory at Dover.
