Duane A. Belknap, 68, of New Philadelphia, passed away on December 19 at Amberwood Manor. The son of the late Raymond and Evelyn Davis Belknap, Duane was born on October 28, 1947, in Dennison, Ohio. Following graduation from New Philadelphia High School in 1965, he attended Heidelberg College before entering the Navy in 1969 serving primarily in San Diego, California. Loving the area, he stayed and worked for the Catamaran Hotel as the night auditor. In 2007 he returned to Ohio where he worked for the BMV before retiring.
He leaves behind a sister Karen (Tim) Fox; a brother Jerry Belknap; uncle and aunts, Al and Melbalene Snyder, and Ida Davis; numerous nieces and nephews; special friend and coworker, Mrs. David (Sally) Hoffman of Japan formerly of San Diego and his companion kitties, Squeek and Grey. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother David Lee Belknap; sister-in- law Ruth Morrison Belknap and nephews, Tim and Michael Belknap.
Duane enjoyed watching basketball, baseball and football, especially the San Diego Chargers and the Padres. He loved theater productions and gospel music performed by the Gaither Vocal Band and local talent Jerome James. He attended First Baptist Church .
A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, January 3rd at the First Baptist Church in the Barn at 3:00pm with visitation one hour before. Rich Van Arsdalen will lead the service and in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Baptist Church missions fund reference Team Prague.
