Doyle Eugene Metzger, 84, of New Philadelphia died Wednesday, November 4, 2015 in his residence following a period of declining health.
A son of the late Walter Russell and Inez Viola Myers Metzger, Doyle was born at Uhrichsville on February 19, 1931.
He was a member of the former Uhrichsville High School class of 1949 and entered into the United States Airforce, where prior to his discharge had earned the rank of Sergeant.
He married the love of his life, Donna Kathryn Gordon on November 17, 1957. The couple reared three children and shared in 56 years of marriage prior to Donna’s passing on October 13, 2014.
Professionally, Doyle served the Union Camp Corporation at Dover for 38 years in the Engineering and Drafting Department. His faith was nurtured at Otterbein United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia and held memberships at the New Philadelphia Elks BPOE 510 and a former member of Midvale VFW. Through the years, Doyle enjoyed gardening, spending time with his grandchildren, and vacationing with his family and friends.
Doyle is survived by his children, Carol Metzger of New Philadelphia, Karen (Steve) White of Roswell, and Don Metzger of Dover; an adopted son, Terry Solomon of Dover; his grandchildren, Sue (Scott) Schafer, Leigh (Butch) Trimmer, and Korey White; and his great-grandchildren, Dawson, Adryan, and Logan Schafer, Andy, Deakin, and Bryer Trimmer; a brother-in-law, Vance Murphy Jr. of New Philadelphia; and two sisters-in-law, Patricia Morgan of Cuyahoga Falls and Phyllis Metzger of Florida as well numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Doyle was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Metzger; and a sister, Dorothy Metzger.
The family will greet guests on Sunday, November 8, 2015 from 1-3 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and again one hour prior to service on Monday, November 9, 2015 from 9:30-10:30 AM. A service celebrating Doyle’s life will begin in the funeral home’s chapel at 10:30 on Monday with Pastor Jon Long officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Memorial Gardens at Dover. Following the committal service a luncheon will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.
