Dorothy Marion Neely, age 89 of Dover, passed away June 9, 2011 in Park Village Assisted Living at Dover following a period of declining health.Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, on September 30, 1921, Dorothy was the daughter of the late William and Wilhelmine Amelia (MacCharles) Attig. Dorothy graduated from Waterdown High School in Canada in 1938, and then was educated for two years at McMaster College where she received a business degree.In 1944, Dorothy came to the United States where she was a New Philadelphia resident before moving to Florida in 1983. She became a United States citizen in 1994. Dorothy was a supervisor in Union Hospital at Dover where she oversaw the volunteers. She was also a member of The First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia and Venice-Nokomis United Methodist Church in Florida.Her interests included reading, and playing Bridge and Badminton. Dorothy was also very active with our local Welcome Wagon.She will be deeply missed by her family including her son, Paul Gibson of New Philadelphia; her sister, June Howie Bullock of Oshawa, Ontario; her son-in-law, Michael Barnes of Aurora, O.; her grandsons, Greg (Andrea) Barnes and Steven Barnes, both of Cuyahoga Falls, O.; her great-grandchildren, Zackary and Amy; her step-children, William (Susan) Neely, Jr. of Vienna, Va., and Leslie A. Neely of Gainesville, Florida; her step-grandson, Craig W. Neely; and nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband, Matthew Edward Gibson; her second husband, William W. Neely; and her daughter, Karen Barnes.Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Monday, June 13 from 1 to 2 p.m. A service celebrating her life will follow visitation at 2 p.m. in the funeral home’s chapel with The Rev. Hugh B. Berry officiating. Burial will be in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia.Friends are invited to the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home, where a meal will be shared following the committal service. Memorial contributions in Dorothy’s memory may be directed to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, 6895 Dover-Zoar Road, Dover, O. 44622.Those unable to attend may send the family personal condolences by signing the online guest registry located on the funeral home’s website.
