Dorothy Mae Wenger, 87, of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Hennis Care & Retirement Center at Dover following a lengthy illness.
A daughter of the late George and Bertha (Clark) Russell, Dorothy was born August 18, 1928 at Magnolia, Ohio.
On September 25, 1948, Dorothy married the love of her life, Theodore R. Wenger and together they raised four children, Judy, Delilah, Theodore and David. The couple shared 59 years of marriage prior to Theodore’s passing on March 18, 2008.
She was a member of Life Way Church at New Philadelphia, formerly known as First Assembly of God Church. Dorothy was a longtime volunteer for the Salvation Army and was also a member of the Salvation Army Home League.
She is survived by children, Judy (Dale) Fincher of New Philadelphia, Delilah Ryan of Dover, Theodore (Kim) Wenger Jr. of New Philadelphia and David (Tonie) Wenger of Frederick, Colorado; her grandchildren, Tanya (Pete) Toland and Tina (Tom) Marchetti both of Marysville, Ohio, Jessica (Jim) Huth of Flagstaff, Arizona and Teddy Wenger III and Christian Wenger both of Van Nuys, California; great grandchildren, Ethan Daniel Toland and Evan James Toland and Rocco Giovanni Marchetti, Franco Salvatore Marchetti and Giana Isabella Marchetti; her sisters, Pauline Kirby of Canton, Nancy Scott of Carrollton and Jackie Russell of Bolivar; a brother, Sam (Karen) Russell of Dellroy; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Russell of New Philadelphia and Yvonne Russell of Minerva; a special niece, Lisa Russell France of Dover and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Martin and her husband, Bill, Mary McNutt and her husband, Lester and Ruth Collinsworth and her husband, Canoey; two brothers, Robert and Paul Russell; brothers-in-law, Henry Kirby and Raymond Scott and a former sister-in-law, Mary Ann Russell.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 13, 2015 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. A luncheon will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia following the committal service.
