Dorothy M. Russell, 86, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, July, 7, 2008, in the Hennis Care Center at Dover.A daughter of the late Emanuel and Celia Grace Reif Mosshart, Dorothy was born in the family residence at Old Town Valley, New Philadelphia on November 3, 1921 and graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1939.Dorothy was a longtime member of the Sherrodsville Wesleyan Church where she was formerly active as church secretary and pianist. She was also active in the church’s woman’s missionary society. She was known for hosting various evangelists in her home, providing church meals and writing the church’s Christmas programs. A homemaker and family woman, Dorothy had formerly been employed by Alsco Screen Doors and as a secretary for the Farm Bureau.She is survived by four children, Barry (Mary) Russell, of New Philadelphia, Sharon (Dan) Newton, of Fairland, Indiana, Ted (Susan) Russell, of North Canton and Kathy Nixon, of Farmington, New Mexico; grandchildren, Kevin Russell, Carrie (Frank) Van Pelt, Mark (Carrie) Newton, Robert Newton, Matthew (Amy) Russell, Daniel (Lynnette) Russell, Seth (Tiffany) Nixon, Jared Nixon and Erica (Jason) Yule; and great grandchildren, Thomas, Caitlyn, Brooke, Erika, Kendra, Andrew, Kyle, Colter, Henry and Bryce.Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas Russell, whom she married, April 5, 1942; a sister, Helen Mosshart and four brothers, Fred, John, Eddie and Roy Mosshart.Visitation will be held Thursday, July 10, 2008, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. David Paul officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover.
