Dorothy M. Elliott, 88, of Dover, passed away March 9, 2013 in the loving and peaceful environment at Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia with family at her bedside.
Dorothy was born on January 12, 1925 in Gallipolis, Ohio to the late Charles and Myrtle Cox. She resided in the New Philadelphia-Dover area her entire adult life.
She lived life to the fullest while always having a smile on her face. On January 18, 1942, she married the love of her life and constant companion, the late Paul O. Elliott. For 43 years, they worked side-by-side raising, caring for and nurturing their four loving children. They also enjoyed fishing and traveling together.
Dorothy enjoyed being outside taking walks in the neighborhood, tending to her yard, flowers and garden, and keeping her friends and family supplied with her special tomatoes all summer long. Dorothy was also a wonderful cook, always having hot meals on the table when her children were growing up. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Paul E. (Jane) Elliott of Oregon; her daughters, Juanita Mills of New Philadelphia, Nancy Myers (Dr. Richard) Galeta of Florida, and Doris Mathias of Dover; 7 adoring grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; her brother, James Cox of Florida; and her daytime companion, Vic Schrader.
In addition to her parents and husband, Paul, Dorothy was preceded in death by her six-month old son, Dean A. Elliott; her great-grandson, Mason Mutschelknaus; her son-in-law, Charles Mills; and 6 siblings.
The Elliott family is eternally grateful to Dr. Ann Harper, Maureen Grady, Tracee Capron, Chad Durfee, and the entire staff at Community Hospice for providing a heavenly environment for Dorothy and their entire family the last 6 days of her earthly life.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 from 10 to 11 a.m. A service celebrating Dorothy’s life will begin at 11 a.m. with The Rev. Chad Durfee, Community Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Burial will follow in East Avenue Cemetery.
Friends and family are invited to the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home, following the committal service where Dorothy’s family will host a luncheon.
