Dorothy Leah Swam Swisher, 92, a resident the Country Club Retirement Campus for the last six years, died Tuesday afternoon, April 20, 2004 at Union Hospital in Dover.She was born in Edison, OH on June 15, 1911, a daughter of the late Pearl C. and Mabel Conklin Swam. On May 16, 1929 Dorothy graduated from Prospect High School in Prospect, near Delaware, OH. Later that year, on November 16, 1929, Dorothy married Roy M. Swisher. The couple shared 45 years of marriage before his death on November 28, 1974.A homemaker and home health aid nurse, Dorothy retired from Ranco after 27 years of service. She was a member of the First Families of Ohio, the Delaware County Pioneers, the Delaware Historical Society and the Delaware Genealogy Society. Additionally, she was a member of the City Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Ostrander Senior Citizens, the Delaware Senior Citizens and the Ostrander Presbyterian Church.Dorothy is survived by daughter, Barbara (James) LaWarre of Tuscarawas; sons, Robert (Vivian) Swisher and John Richard (Marlene) Swisher, both of Delaware, OH; seven grandsons and one granddaughter; eleven great-grandchildren; two step-granddaughters; two step-great-grandchildren; sister, Cleo Swam James of Radnor, OH; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Benjamin and Virgil Swam and a sister, Myrtle Swam Hawk.The graveside service will be held at the Prospect Cemetery in Prospect, OH on Thursday, April 29, 2004 at 11:00 AM, where she will be buried alongside her husband. There will be no visitation.Instead of flowers, contributions may be given to the Ostrander Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 242, Ostrander, OH 43061-9785.
