Dorothy K. Coutts, age 87, of Dover and formerly of New Philadelphia, died peacefully, Friday, October 9, 2015, surrounded by her family, in Union Hospital at Dover while in the care of Community Hospice.
Born on September 22, 1928 at New Philadelphia, Dorothy was a daughter of the late Donald and Beatrice (Pompey) Cercone.
Following her graduation from New Philadelphia High School, Dorothy attended Beauty Collage at Zanesville and became the owner and operator of her own beauty salon for 60 years.
While Dorothy was baptized Roman Catholic, she enjoyed attending Broadway United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia where she was an active member of the Women’s Quilting Guild. She was also a member of numerous card clubs and loved preparing food for family gatherings. Later in life, Dorothy became an avid sports fan who passionately followed the Cleveland Indians. While living at Park Village, Dorothy loved various activities and playing Bingo.
She is survived by her family, three sons; Gene Michael “Mick” (Carol) Coutts, Don (Dee Dee) Coutts, all of New Philadelphia and Chris (Lisa) Coutts of Solon; her grandchildren, Jeffrey (Kimberly) Coutts of Cincinnati and Sarah (Andy) Artzner of Sunbury; Andrew Coutts of Chicago, Chloe Coutts of Cleveland, and Haley Coutts, a student at Ohio University; her great-grandchildren, Nolan Gene, and Grayson Daniel; a brother-in-law, Glenn Carlisle of New Philadelphia, and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene “Gene” Coutts, whom she married on August 14, 1948 and celebrated 37 years of marriage prior to his passing on December 12, 1987. Also preceding Dorothy in death was an infant Daughter, Carol Ann Coutts; and a brother, Albert Cercone.
The family will greet guests on Monday, October 12, 2015 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Jeff Coning, on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 10:30 AM in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
