Dorothy Jean Sickinger, age 82, of New Philadelphia, and a longtime civic and church leader, went to be with the Lord, Monday, August 13, 2007, from Aultman Hospital at Canton, where she had been a patient for the past week. Born September 11, 1924 at Tuscarawas, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Isabella (Benner) Sickinger.After graduating from Tuscarawas High School, she began her professional career, retiring from the former Joy Manufacturing at New Philadelphia where she was an accountant for many years.Dorothy was a charter member and a pillar of the Schoenbrunn Community Moravian Church. Her devotion and support for the church was recognized by all who worshipped with her. Dorothy was also a member of Lodge # 222 of the Order of the Eastern Star at New Philadelphia.Ms. Sickinger leaves behind a family that includes her sister, Sara Rich of Charlottesville, Virginia, and her three brothers, Arthur (Rhoda) Sickinger of New Philadelphia, Robert Sickinger of Altoona, Pennsylvania, and William (Linda) Sickinger of Ashley, Ohio. Numerous nieces and nephews complete the family. A memorial service celebrating Dorothy’s life will be held in the Schoenbrunn Community Moravian Church, Saturday morning, August 25, 2007, at 11AM. Her family will receive friends during a reception in the church fellowship hall at the conclusion of the service. Dorothy will be cremated through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Those unable to attend Saturday’s service are invited to share memories and condolences with the family by visiting the Sickinger Memorial on the funeral home’s website.
