Dorothy Fae Paulus, age 87, of New Philadelphia died unexpectedly, Monday, January 19, 2015, in her residence.
A daughter of the late John and Carrie (Fackler) Thomas, Dorothy was born at New Philadelphia on July 18, 1927.
She was a 1945 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. On September 14, 1947, Dorothy married a grade school classmate, Earl Paulus. The couple raised four children and shared in 62 years of marriage prior to Earl’s passing on October 30, 2009.
Dorothy was known as a hard worker and when not caring for her children, worked right along with her husband in the operation of the family business, Paulus Turkey Farm.
A longtime member of Sharon Moravian Church, Dorothy was a member of the Women’s Fellowship, served as a Diener and Elder and served as a Vacation Bible School teacher for numerous years. She was also devoted to her work at Tar Hollow Church Camp, where she made numerous friends, both young and old, through the years.
Those who knew her best were well aware of her “open door” policy. Through long, meaningful conversations, countless games of cards and numerous pots of coffee, Dorothy’s kitchen table was the place where she shared her Christian Witness with others.
She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Gail (Carl) Dufford of Johnstown, Ohio and Leslie Teter of Washington Court House, Ohio; six grandchildren, Joshua (Jennifer) Dufford, Carrie Dufford, Andrew Dufford, Aaron (Kate) Teter, Paul (Christy) Teter, and Seth (Lyndsey) Teter; and seven great-grandchildren, Jacob, Melia, and Benjamin Teter, Owen and Annabel Teter, and Molly and Eleanor Teter complete the family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by two children, Joan and Gary Paulus; a son-in-law, Chuck Teter; and two sisters, Margaret Campbell and Jeanne Francis.
The family will greet guests on Friday, January 23, 2015 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Reverends William Surber and Rebecca Sisley will lead a service celebrating Dorothy’s life in the Sharon Moravian Church on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in the Sharon Moravian Church Cemetery. A meal and fellowship will follow in the church Social Hall.
The family requests that memorial contributions in Dorothy’s name be directed to Sharon Moravian Church, P.O. Box 385, Tuscarawas, Ohio 44682.
