Dorothy “Boots” Eichel, 79, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, January 22, 2014 in Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health.
A daughter of the late George Gilbert and Julia (Wharton) Dugan, Boots was born April 17, 1934 in Union Hospital at Dover, Ohio.
Boots retired from East Sparta Ceramics and she enjoyed playing Bingo and fishing. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her best friend and companion, “PeeWee”.
She leaves behind four generations of family which includes a son, Robert (Jenny) Eichel, a daughter, Barb (Mike) Canon, a son, Don (Mary) Eichel and her baby, Chuck (Anne Marie) Eichel; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a brother, Jerry (Mary) Dugan and numerous nieces and nephews.
Boots was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Dorothy Gasser; a sister, Doris Dugan; a granddaughter, Kari Canon; a grandson, Robert Eichel III and a great granddaughter, Sara Kugler.
Calling hours will be on Sunday, January 26, 2014 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Boots’ life will be held on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home with Tim Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Following the committal service, a private family “shindig” will be held.
