Dorothy E. Sexton, age 91, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully Wednesday, October 23, 2013 in Schoenbrunn Health Care Center following a lengthy illness.
A daughter of the late Murray E. and Ollie J. (Beal) Rickey, Dorothy was born at Guernsey County, Ohio on November 10, 1921.
She attended Cambridge High School and on August 26, 1940, Dorothy married Camet E. Sexton and together the couple raised two children and shared in 64 years of marriage prior to his passing in September of 2004.
Dorothy was employed by Emerson Dress Shop at Zanesville from 1958-1975 and previously attended the Bowerston Methodist Church.
Being around family and friends was one of Dorothy’s great joys in life. She also enjoyed needlework, cooking, and baking; having made fresh bread or pies daily.
She is survived by two children, Florence Munday of Ashville, North Carolina, Herman “Butch” (Barbara) Sexton of New Philadelphia; four grandchildren, Shane Sexton, Brie Sexton Russmann, Christian Sexton, and Troy Maxwell; 12 great-grandchildren, Drew Sexton, Ian Sexton, Blake Sexton, Dane Russmann, Lydia Russman, Teag Russmann, Aleah Sexton, Jayli Sexton, Kiera Sexton, Elise Sexton, Tia Maxwell Thurman and Joshua Maxwell.
Completing the family are two great-great grandchildren, Micah Maxwell Thurman and Gavin Maxwell; two nieces, Joan Vass of Cambridge, Delores Hunt of Zanesville, and a nephew, William Hale of Lake Panasoffkee, Florida.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by two sisters, Mabel Hale and Edna Clegg as well as a son-in-law, Wayne Munday.
Private services will be led by Rev. Dr. Steven Bailey with burial taking place alongside her husband in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens Dover.
