Dorothy E. Glass, age 95, of New Philadelphia, the co-founder of Glass Lumber & Builder’s Supply, died peacefully with her family at her side Saturday morning, June 20, 2009, having been a well cared for resident of New Dawn Health Care Center at Dover for the past two years. Born at New Philadelphia, September 18, 1913, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Anna Griffith Waldron. Dorothy attended school at New Philadelphia, and for four years following school, she went to work in the former Belmont Stamping & Enameling Company.On September 8, 1937, she married Anthony F. Glass. Together the couple forged a marriage and business partnership beginning with Glass Trucking Co. then the Glass Lumber Company, an operation that would grow to include three generations of her family. Dorothy was very proud to work alongside her family members as a bookkeeper. A longtime member of the First Christian Church at New Philadelphia, Dorothy was a member of both the “Come Join Us” Sunday School Class, and the Golden Circle Christian Fellowship Group. Among the many lessons she taught her family was to “always put God first; family second and good friends third.” Dorothy and Tony lead lives by this motto â?? and observed their sixtieth wedding anniversary prior to his death in February, 1998. Survivors include her daughter; Barbara Anne Cooper of New Philadelphia, two sons; Thomas F. (wife, Angela) Glass, of New Philadelphia, and James R. (wife, Karen) Glass of Dover. Five grandchildren; Debra (husband, Alan) Peddicord, Dianne Cooper, Denise (husband, Kyle) Dalcoma, Wendy (husband, Richard) Gibbs, and Dr. Erica Glass (companion Dr. Kurtis Stemple), as well as seven great-grandchildren; Jesse and Lindsay Peddicord, Cody and Kayla Morrison, Anthony J. “A.J.” Glass, Neil Gibbs, and Charlie Gibbs. Two great-great-grandchildren; Gavin Peddicord and Grant Hale, and a sister; Roberta VonAllmen of Dover and a brother-in-law; James Abbott of Canton, complete the family. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Glass is preceded in death by her son-in-law; William E. Cooper, her grandson; Tony Glass, two sisters; Esther Archinal and Audrey Abbott, and a brother-in-law; John VonAllmen. Friends are invited to call Monday (TODAY) from 4PM – 7PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Jim Borton will lead Mrs. Glass’ funeral service Tuesday afternoon at 2PM in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial, alongside her husband, will follow in Evergreen Burial Park.
