Dorothy Deane Miller, age 84, a longtime resident of New Philadelphia, and formerly Crooked Run, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, May 26, 2011 in New Dawn Health Care Center at Dover following a period of declining health.Born at Dover on March 21, 1927, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Charles G. and Elizabeth Mary (McMasters) Jones. A 1945 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, the following year she met, fell in love with, and married Earl C. “Dutch” Miller, who preceded her in death on August 1, 2002.Together with Dutch, Dorothy operated a dairy farm in Crooked Run Valley for many years. She then joined the United States Postal Service where she served as a rural mail carrier for 20 years before her retirement from the New Philadelphia Post Office in 1989.Dorothy served as a volunteer at Union Hospital from 2002 to 2009 and also was a member of Jerusalem Church.She leaves behind her loving family including her children, Patty (husband, Lee) Krieg of De Pere, Wisconsin, Susie (husband, Dave) Bambeck of Dover, and Michael (wife, Denice) Miller of Sterling, O.; her sister, Pat Fazenbaker and brother, Charles Jones, both of Dover.Survivors also include her loving grandchildren, Amy Miller of Nashville, TN, and Jennifer Miller, of Fairfax VA, Elizabeth Spence of Baltimore, OH, Megan and Lydia Bambeck, both of Dover, and Mark (wife, Hiran) of De Pere, WI, and 8 nieces and 5 nephews, and her canine company Abbie, miniature schnauzer.In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy is preceded in death by her son, E. Thomas Miller in 1977; her brother, John E. “Jack” Jones in 1980; her sister, Aurelia Jane Jones in 1943; and her in-laws, Earl E. (Martha) Miller.Friends are invited to call Friday (TODAY) 3 to 5 p.m., in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover, where the Rev. Frank Sapp, Jr. will lead a service celebrating Dorothy’s life Saturday morning at 11AM. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Saturday as well. Burial will follow alongside her husband in Dover Burial Park. A luncheon reception will be served in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Those unable to attend are invited to share memories and condolences with the family by visiting the funeral home’s website. Dorothy’s family is greatly appreciative of the care she received from both New Dawn Health Care Center and Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County.
