Dorothy C. Bower

Dorothy C. “Dude” Bower, 86, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, September 23, 2008 in her home.A daughter of the late Dorothy Burnish, Dorothy was born September 3, 1922 at Dennison, Ohio.She was a graduate of Dennison High School and was retired from Kroger’s after 20 years of service. Dorothy had a passion for animals and therefore, she volunteered her time at the Tuscarawas County Dog Pound and was a member of the Tuscarawas County Humane Society. She also enjoyed painting, crafts and tending to her floral gardens around the home.Dorothy was a member of Dover V.F.W., the Dover Eagles and the Dover Moose as well as a member of the Pallet Club and the Tuscarawas County Art Guild.She is survived by her sons, Ward (Lois) Bower of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Howard K. Bower of Canton, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Becky Bower of Wheeling, West Virginia; grandchildren, Kristie (Chad) Barnett and Kimberley Bower both of Wheeling, West Virginia, Jami Hill of Columbus, Ohio, Jason Bower of Wheeling, West Virginia, Lisa Garner of Ardmore, Oklahoma and Brit Bower of Albuquerque, New Mexico; eight great grandchildren; a nephew, Jerry Burris of Canton, Ohio, very special friends, Max and Sue Lahmers of Dover and Vivian Sickafoose of New Philadelphia and her special cat, Kitty Kat.She was preceded in death by her mother; her husband of 61 years, Ward Keith Bower, whom she wed on November 10, 1940; a son, Jerry Lee Bower and a special aunt, Betty Griner.Family and friends may call on Thursday, September 25, 2008 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and again from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Friday. A funeral service celebrating Dorothy’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 26, 2008 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Bishop C.H. Gammill officiating. Following the service, a memorial reception will be held in Dorothy’s home.
