Dorothy A. Heidenreich, age 85, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully Thursday, June 19, 2008.A daughter of the late Elmer and Maude (Read) Weis, Dorothy was born on November 30, 1922 at Cleveland, Ohio and was a graduate of the former West Technical High School at Cleveland.As Dorothy was affected by Polio in her early twenties, she was never able to lead an active lifestyle that others often do. Her handicap did not stop her however; for twenty years Dorothy worked in the Personnel Department for the Ohio Department of Transportation District 11 office until her retirement in 1988.In her spare time, Dorothy was an avid reader and could easily spend hours deliberating over the plot lines of a Danielle Steele novel.Dorothy was a lover of sports as well. She adored Tiger Woods and enjoyed watching him play a round of golf. Additionally, she was a fan of the Cleveland Indians and appreciated the athleticism that surrounded the sport.As she grew older, Dorothy found herself enjoying television programs such as Family Feud, The View and especially enjoyed watching The Animal Planet Network.She is survived by three sons, Tom (Diana) Heidenreich, Jerry (Kathy) Heidenreich both of New Philadelphia, and Bob (Laura) Heidenreich of Mesa, Arizona; and throughout the years has stayed especially close to her former daughter in law, Lynne Sanderson.Four grandsons, Michael Heidenreich, Trevor (Amy) Heidenreich, Brian (Michelle) Heidenreich, and Travis Heidenreich; five great-grandchildren, Abbey, Sophia, and Genevieve Heidenreich, Brady Heidenreich, and Kurtis Heidenreich complete the family.In keeping with Dorothy’s wishes, there will be no public calling hours or services and cremation will take place through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.Those wishing to send the family personal condolences may sign the online guest registry located on the funeral home’s website.Dorothy was passionate about many organizations throughout her life and on her behalf; the family would like to request that memorial contributions be made to either The Rainbow Connection, 123 South Wooster Avenue, Dover, Ohio 44622 or to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 3300 East Sunrise Drive, Tucson, AZ 85718.
