Doris W. “Dodie” Sattler, 79, New Philadelphia, died Wednesday at New Dawn Health Care Center surrounded by her family.A daughter of the late Perry R. and Belle Wicks Welch, Doris was born April 21, l924, in Ashland, Ohio, and graduated from Ashland High School in l941. Following graduation, she was a receptionist for the War Production Board in Washington, DC, and later worked at radio station WATG in Ashland.In December, 1944, Doris joined the WAVES and received an honorable discharge in July, l946, as Yeoman, 1st class.She was married to Robert Sudlow Sattler for 45 years, prior to his death February 1, l991, and, with him, nurtured a family of four boys, enjoying their various high school and college sports, starting with Little League and progressing into football, basketball, baseball, and golf. Her enjoyment continued as she watched her grandchildren participate in the same activities. Doris was a member of the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia and a former 30-year member of the First United Methodist Church in Mineral City.She is survived her sons, Rick (Sue) Sattler of New Philadelphia, Rob (Renee) Sattler of Dover, David W. Sattler of New Philadelphia, and William D. (Paula) Sattler of Las Vegas, NV; four grandchildren, Courtney, Kyle, Blake, and Ashley Sattler; two step-granddaughters, Jaime and Lauren Yost; three sisters, Mary Helen Muell of Des Moines, IA, JoAnn Gore, Huntsville, AL, and Sara Jane Davidson of Denten, MD; sister-in-law, Bettyann Welch of Ashland; numerous loving nieces and nephews; and a host of special friends, including her best and closest friend, Kay Barnett.In addition to her husband, two brothers, Robert William Welch and Richard Dean Welch, one sister, Elizabeth Walters, one brother-in-law, William Sattler, and one sister-in-law, Mary Sattler, preceded her in death.Services will be Saturday, October 4, at 11 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Steven R. Bailey officiating and Rev. Peggy Garner serving as soloist. A reception will follow the service in the Geib Family Center. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, October 3, from 5 to 8 PM. Cremation will be under the care and direction of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia.The family suggests that memorial contributions be forwarded to the Susan G.
