Doris Maye (Patterson) Cox, 86, of New Philadelphia, passed away Saturday morning, July 17, 2004, at Morning View Care Center in New Philadelphia.Born November 18, 1917 in Tappan, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Robert Lewis and Ella Dell (Davis) Patterson. After graduating from Dennison High School in 1937, she married her late husband, Robert Lester Cox, on June 1, 1941. Together they raised two children. Doris was a woman of great faith and had a zest for life. She has been a member of the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia since the mid-1940s. There, she loved to care for children in the nursery and was a member of the Homebuilder’s Sunday School class. Children took priority in Doris’ eyes, often caring for friends’ children throughout her life. Her affiliations within the community were many. She was a former member of the Union Grange Lodge #1450, where she was the Home Economics chairperson. She also volunteered at the lunch counter at the Tuscarawas County Fair. Doris was a former member of the Feedspring Loyal Workers and was the secretary of the Feedspring School Reunion.Doris is survived by her two children, David (Esther) Cox of New Philadelphia and Kathy (Phil) Kerr of Dover; grandchildren, David (Becki) Cox and Todd (Cathy) Cox both of New Philadelphia, Robert (friend, Gilbert Estrada) Cox of Canton, Heather (Robert) Stilwell and Heidi Kerr, both of Dover, and Hayley Kerr of Massillon; and great-grandchildren, Kameron and Tyler Cox, Nicole and Kyle Cox, and Robert Lee and Emilee Stilwell.In addition to her husband and parents, Doris was preceded in death by her sister, Mary J. Rogers.Visitation will be held at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia, on Monday, July 19, 2004 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A service celebrating Doris’ life will be held on Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, 201 W. High Ave., New Philadelphia, beginning at 10:30 a.m. with Dr. Steven Bailey and Rev. Stewart Barr officiating. Burial alongside her husband will immediately follow the service at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. Friends are invited back to the church after the graveside service where a luncheon will be served in the fellowship hall. The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the First United Methodist Church, 201 W.
