Doris M. Cole, age 83 of New Philadelphia, died peacefully Monday afternoon, January 2, 2006 in Union Hospital at Dover. Born at New Philadelphia August 30, 1922, one of eight children, and the only daughter of the late Victor R. and Margaret Beichley Bigler. Doris was a 1941 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. On February 11, 1945, Doris married Lester Earl Cole, who survives. They would have celebrated their sixty-first wedding anniversary next month. Doris was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, and attended Sunday School there for many years. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post 1445. She was employed by the former F.W. Woolworth store and also worked on a part time basis for the former Jaffee Company. In addition to her husband, survivors include her brother, Robert (Virginia) Bigler of Midvale, a sister-in-law, Edith Bigler of New Philadelphia, as well as a number of precious nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Six brothers, Hermon, Eldon, Kenneth, Donald, Wendall, and Raymond Bigler, in addition to her parents, precede Doris in death. Friends are invited to call Wednesday evening (TONIGHT) from 5 until 7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where Lutheran church council services will commence at 7 PM. Pastor Mike Walters will officiate funeral services Thursday morning at 11AM in the funeral home’s chapel where the family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at East Avenue Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 202 East High Avenue, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
