Doris E. Shaw, 91, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully in her residence, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, March 29, 2018, following a period of declining health.
Born at New Philadelphia on July 31, 1926, Doris was a daughter of the late Thurman Ollie and Cora Martha (Agin) Brown.
She was a 1944 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and worked for more than a decade as a cashier at K-Mart prior to her retirement.
Doris had the unique ability to find humor in frustrating situations and loved sharing her ornery personality. She loved to shop and was always on the hunt for a great bargain. Doris was very creative; loved drawing, crafting ceramic, needle point, and crocheting projects. She also enjoyed watching The Walking Dead and providing a continuous commentary of the show throughout each episode. Above all, however, Doris loved her family, being a part of their lives and watching each of them grow up.
Doris is survived by her children, Deborah Shull of New Philadelphia and David (Karen) Shaw of Kent, Ohio; six grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her sister, Wilma Lintz and her son-in-law, Randy Shull.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no public services. Cremation will be cared for through Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory. Burial will take place in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
Memorial contributions in Doris’ name may be directed to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, 1432 Tall Timber Rd NE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663 or to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
