Doris Briggs

Doris Hurst Briggs, 84, of Dover, passed away peacefully in Hennis Care Center at Dover on her birthday, early Thursday morning, July 25, 2013.

Born in Dover, she was the daughter of the late Ronald Hurst and Edith (Wright) Hurst. After graduating from New Philadelphia High School in 1947, she continued her formal education at Bowling Green State University where she studied business.

Her faith was nurtured throughout her lifetime at the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia where she was a member for more than 50 years.

Doris will long be remembered as a very loving and caring individual who never passed up an opportunity to compliment someone. She had a great love for music, movies and the beach. Many days were spent in the car on long rides and she also loved playing Bingo.

Doris will be missed by her two sons, John David Briggs of New Philadelphia and Eric Richard Briggs of Dover; her grandson, Dustin (Amber) Briggs of Strasburg; and two great-grandchildren, Ashlynn and Easton Briggs.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Briggs, whom she married on January 12, 1952.

No public visitation or services will be held. A private graveside service will be held in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia next week with Rev. Steve Bailey officiating.
