Doris Breitenstein

Doris Breitenstein, 85, of New Philadelphia, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 12, 2014 while in the care of Community Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in New Philadelphia, Ohio on June 4, 1929, Doris was the daughter of the late John and Erma (Burris) Smith. She was a 1947 graduate of New Philadelphia High School.

Doris attended the Broadway United Methodist Church and retired from Union Camp after 38 years of service. She also was a member of the Dover Moose and volunteered for numerous organizations where she met many close friends.

She is survived by her cousins Dorothy Halter, Cherie Conidi and Patricia Powell all of Dover, Paul, Bill, Ronald and Barbara Bevan, Vic Krebs, Mary Jo Haught and Sandra Fragasse all of New Philadelphia, Jill Clark of Canton and John Krebs of Pataskala, Ohio; Two Step-Daughters Bobbie Lax of Dover and Diane (Gary) Herman of Georgia and several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Breitenstein and her brother Hubert Smith.

The family will receive guests on Wednesday, October 15 from 10:30 until 11:30 at the Broadway United Methodist Church. A service celebrating Doris’s life will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the church with Pastor Ron Heasley. Burial will follow at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. Following the services, all are invited to join the family for food and fellowship in the church social hall.
