Dora Mae Stempfly

Dora Mae Stempfly, 93, of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, November 1, 2015 at her home.

A daughter of the late Dewey and Marie (Kron) Gopp, Dora was born January 8, 1922 at New Philadelphia, Ohio.

Dora graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1939 and was retired from the Woolworth Company where she worked for 30 years.

She was a member of the First United Church of Christ at New Philadelphia and was an active member of the community.

She is survived by her friend and companion, Bill Cunningham of New Philadelphia; her step-children, Mary Ann (companion, Larry Fox) Pica of Uhrichsville, Bari (Ed) Yosick of Clarkston, Michigan and Barb Parr of Canton; her nieces and nephews, Tom (Candy) Gopp of Dover, Paul (Patty) Gopp of Leesville Lake, Patti (Mark) DeVault and Liz (Russ) Shroyer both of New Philadelphia and Dewey Gopp, David (Colleen) Gopp and Helen (Roger) Smith all of California; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; numerous great nieces and great nephews; an aunt, Mary Gopp of Dover and two sisters-in-law, Betty Gopp of New Philadelphia and Yayoi “Mike” (Yuki) Takeda of California.

Dora was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold Stempfly who passed away on February 24, 1985 and three brothers and a sister-in-law, Bill Gopp, David Gopp and John (Katherine) Gopp.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Dora’s life will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Jeffrey Gerber officiating. Burial will follow in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
