DONOVAN E. HENNIS, 76, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday morning, April 17, 2002 at Union Hospital in Dover. He was born March 29, 1926 in Hopedale to the late Thomas G. and Mae B. Pinch Hennis. During World War II, Donovan served honorably with the U. S. Army in the south Pacific. On November 22, 1947 he married the former Esther E. Fulton, who survives. Donovan worked as a pipe fitter for Weirton Steel from 1955 until retiring in 1986. From 1982 until 1995 the couple lived in Deersville where Donovan served as a trustee for the Deersville United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He also was a member of Faith Community Chapel in Leesville. The couple relocated to New Philadelphia in 1995. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Thomas (Anita) Hennis of Ruther Glen, VA; a daughter, Caroline (Jim) Elliott of Fresno, CA; brothers, Harry (Tillie) Hennis of Norwalk and William (Donna (Hennis) of Unionport; sister, Colleen Devore of Bloomingdale; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two daughters, Colleen and Mary Elizabeth; a brother, Thomas, and a sister, Arvella Shaffer. The memorial service will be Saturday, April 20, 2002, 10:00 AM in Faith Community Chapel, 145 S. Union St., Leesville, with Pastor Douglas Mallernee officiating.
