Donna Sharlene Sharkey, 71, of Gnadenhutten, died Sunday, March 07, 2010 in Altercare of Navarre following a period of declining health.A daughter of the late Lloyd and Lydia (Reichman) Hiedy, Donna was born April 11, 1938 at Dennison, Ohio.Donna married the love of her life, Albert E. “Gene” Sharkey on January 22, 1956 in the Gnadenhutten United Methodist Church. The couple shared 52 years of marriage prior to Gene’s passing on October 29, 2008.She was a life long resident of the Gnadenhutten area. She was a member of the Gnadenhutten United Methodist Church and was formerly employed as a nail technician at Ultimate Hair & Nail Salon.Camping was a favorite pastime of Donna’s and she enjoyed many excursions with Gene and the rest of her family. She also enjoyed crocheting in her spare time and would share her works with family and friends.Donna cherished the time spent with her family, especially her great grandbabies, and they will remember her for her willingness to share her opinion with others. She also enjoyed the companionship of her cat, Missy.She is survived by her two sons, Ronald (Pat) Sharkey of Newcomerstown and Alan (Silvia) Sharkey of Killeen, Texas and two daughters, Barbara (Rick) Winter of Navarre and Sue (Steve) Hartsough of Uhrichsville.Six grandsons, Steven (Jennifer) Freeland, Matthew (Mallory) Norman, Tyson Sharkey, Chad Winter, Daniel Winter and Brandon Brown; three granddaughters, Kayla Sharkey, Alexandria (Ash) Gamble and Katie Winter; five great grandchildren; a brother, Frances of Barnhill and a sister, Sharon of Tennessee complete the family.The family will receive guests on Friday, March 12, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A memorial service celebrating Donna’s life will follow in the funeral home chapel at 8 p.m. with Rev. Hugh Berry officiating. Inurnment will take place in Gnadenhutten Clay Union Cemetery during a private family service.Donna’s family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the aides, nurses, staff and residents of Altercare of Navarre for their wonderful care and friendship during her time there.
