Donna Kathryn Metzger, 81, of New Philadelphia, passed away October 13, 2014 in Schoenbrunn Healthcare Center at New Philadelphia following a lengthy illness.
Born in New Philadelphia, Ohio on March 18, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Vance Donald and Harriet Z. (Gordon) Murphy.
Donna graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1951. She then married her lifelong companion and friend, Doyle E. Metzger of New Philadelphia, on November 17, 1957.
In her younger years Donna was employed as a secretary by Union Camp at Dover and was also an Avon Representative. Her faith was nurtured at Otterbein United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia where she was a member for more than 60 years.
Donna was an avid bowler and golfer. She is credited with being the first woman in Tuscarawas County to record a hole-in-one which took place at Big Bend Golf Course at Uhrichsville, from the men’s tees. She enjoyed playing Bingo, crocheting and knitting but most of all she enjoyed the company of her friends and family.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, Doyle; her children, Carol Metzger of New Philadelphia, Karen (Steve) White of Roswell, and Don Metzger of Dover; an adopted son, Terry Solomon of Dover; her brother, Vance Murphy Jr. of New Philadelphia; her sister, Patricia Morgan of Cuyahoga Falls; her grandchildren, Sue (Scott) Schafer, Leigh (Butch) White-Trimmer, and Korey White; and her great-grandchildren, Dawson, Adryan, and Logan Schafer, Andy Trimmer, Deakin White, and Bryer Trimmer.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Thursday, October 16, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m. and again one hour prior to the service on Friday. A service celebrating Donna’s life will be held in the funeral home’s chapel on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dave Chambers officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Memorial Gardens at Dover. Following the committal service a luncheon will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.
