Donna Jean Dunlap

Donna Jean Dunlap, age 75, of Dover, went to be with the Lord, Saturday morning, January 31, 2009, from Akron City Hospital. Born December 12, 1933 at Dennison, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Tinabelle Gower Wright. Widely known for her more than three decades of service as a realtor to our community, Donna was a pioneer as one of the first females to earn her real estate license in Tuscarawas County. She began her career with the former Fred. G. Swegheimer Real Estate then assisted Danny Spring Realty. Later Donna was affiliated with Caldwell Banker New Towne Realty, then K. Bee Realty, and ultimately Realty One. Her colleagues will remember Donna for her giftedness in working with first time home buyers. Before her career in Real Estate, Donna had put to work her natural talent for putting others at ease by serving as an area Avon consultant for twenty-six years. She loved making other ladies look and feel better. Donna forged many lasting friendships with clients from her Avon service. Despite a busy professional schedule her family, especially her sons and grandchildren, where the ultimate beneficiaries of Donna’s time and efforts. Donna was an instrumental volunteer in the early years of Dover’s Pee-Wee Football, during the late 1960’s. She went on to be one of the founding members of the Dover Mother’s Club. When her sons were enrolled at East School, it was Donna serving as President of the Parent Teacher Association. Donna is best remembered for the care and attention she showered upon others. “Mom had a need to know, a curiosity about her that lead her to care for others above herself,” observed one son. She also found time, twice annually, to serve as a poll worker for the Tuscarawas County Board of Elections. She leaves behind her husband of fifty years, Glen A. Dunlap. The couple observed their golden anniversary this past December 27. Together they reared two sons; Patrick and wife Joy Dunlap of Dover, and Scott and wife Debbie Dunlap of Wooster. Life won’t be the same without “grandma” to Paul and wife Kaitlyn Dunlap of Canton, Jared Dunlap of Dover, and Catrina and Courtney Dunlap, both of Wooster. A sister; Mary Ann Wright of New Philadelphia, a brother-in-law; Richard Dunlap of Dover, her “adopted” family Kevin and Karen Korns of Dover, and many special nieces, nephews and cousins complete the family. In addition to her parents, Donna is preceded in death by her sister; Maxine Kilpatrick, a brother; Tom Wright, mother and father-in-law; Mary Alice and Lee Dunlap, as well as a sister-in-law; Doris Dunlap.Friends are invited to call Tuesday, February 3, from 2-4 and from 6-8 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. The Reverend Hugh B. Berry will lead Mrs. Dunlap’s funeral Wednesday, February 4, at 10:30 AM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. She will be laid to rest in Dover Burial Park following the service. Family and friends will gather for a reception following the committal service in Geib Funeral Center, adjacent to the cemetery.
