Donald Wayne “Don” Dunfee, 55, of Dover, died Wednesday, August 9, 2006, following an unexpected illness.A son of Edna Kendle Dunfee and the late Sam Dunfee, Jr., Don was born July 19, 1951, in Dover. He was a 1969 graduate of Dover High School, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, in New Philadelphia, where he had formerly served as a Deacon.Don retired from the City of Dover Fire Department in 2002. He began working with the fire department in 1977 and had served as a Firefighter, Emergency Medical Technician, Fire Safety Inspector and Investigator during his years of service.Following retirement he had worked with Smith Ambulance and with Mike Larkin Construction. He enjoyed camping and fishing at Lake Erie with his buddies, hunting deer on his brother-in-law’s farm in Newcomerstown, traveling with his family to California and the Caribbean, and visiting Las Vegas with his wife Linda.He will be remembered fondly by his family and friends as a wonderful, loving husband and father with a great sense of humor who enjoyed jokes and making others laugh.Don is survived by his mother; his wife, Linda Fay Smith Dunfee, whom he married, December 2, 1972; daughters, Melissa R. Dunfee, of Dover and Amber M. Dunfee, of North Canton; brothers, Walter S. (Karen) Dunfee and Daniel L. (Mary) Dunfee, both of Dover; a sister, Sue A. (Randy) Minnis, of Dover; his mother-in-law, Florence I. Smith, of Newcomerstown; brother-in-law, John W. (Judy) Smith, of Newcomerstown; sister-in-laws, Mary Ann (Jim) Conner and Patty L. (Joe) Somogye, both of Newcomerstown and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his father; his father-in-law, J. Wayne Smith; and his uncle Lester and aunt Evelyn Huston.Visitation will be Sunday, August 13, 2006, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Geib Funeral Center, 5600 North Wooster Ave. Dover. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral center with Pastor Richard Greenwood and Captain Brent Carlson officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. A reception will be held in the hospitality room at the Geib Center following the committal.Memorial contributions in memory of Don are suggested to the Salvation Army, 301 N. Wooster Ave. Dover, Ohio 44622 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
