Donald “Joe” Ricklic

Donald Joseph “Joe” Ricklic, 82, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully, with his family at his side, in New Dawn Retirement Center at Dover on Wednesday, September 12, 2018.

Born in New Philadelphia on January 14, 1936, Joe was a son of the late Joseph A. and Martha E. DeWaele Ricklic.

Following his graduation from New Philadelphia High School, Joe entered into the Untied States Army and proudly served his country from 1958-1960. He worked for 37 years as a delivery driver for the Dover News Agency and later worked part-time at The Times Reporter and Rick’s Shoe Repair.

Joe was a life-long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia where he was a longtime participant in Adoration Services. Joe enjoyed riding his bike, watching sports and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.

He is survived by his six children, David (Karen) Ricklic of Stone Creek, Joseph Ricklic, Martha Stephens and Charlotte Mahaffey all of New Philadelphia, Lauri Zampino of Chardon, Ohio and Jennifer (Joe) Price of New Philadelphia; a sister, Laura Dutton of Mineral City; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Ricklic of New Philadelphia. Completing the family are 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Mildred Ricklic, whom he married on July 4, 1962 and preceded him in death on June 29, 2012; a sister and brother-in-law, Irma (Bill) Reiger; a brother and sister-in-law, Albert (Ann) Ricklic; a brother, Raymond Ricklic; and a brother-in-law, John Dutton.

The family will receive guests on Saturday, September 15, 2018, from 9-10:45 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Fr. Jeff Coning will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church on Saturday at 11 AM. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. A meal and fellowship will follow in St. Ambrose Hall, adjacent to the church.
