Donald H. Maurer, 77, of New Philadelphia, died Friday morning September 24, 2004 in Union Hospital following a short illness.Donald, who was a lifelong resident of the county, was born on July 26, 1927 in Dover to the late Henry J. and Cora (Dessecker) Maurer.Donald was Master of the Union Grange, Treasurer of the Pomona Grange, a member of the State of Ohio Grange as well as a member of the National Grange. He loved being involved in Grange activities and especially enjoyed working the Pomona Grange lunch stand at the Tuscarawas County Fair. He was also a member of the New Philadelphia Elks.Donald loved to bowl and was a former Secretary-Treasurer of the Dover-New Philadelphia Bowling Association. He was a member of the Bowlers Hall of Fame. He and his wife also founded the Star of Tomorrow Program to encourage young bowlers.He is survived by his loving wife, Kathryn (Spittle) Maurer, whom he married on July, 23rd 1947. Also surviving are two daughters; Karen (Don) Angel of Strasburg and Kathy Archinal of New Philadelphia; one son Dale (Robbie) Maurer of Hope, AK; Grandson’s, Donald Maurer and Terry Maurer of Arkansas, Steve Angel of Indiana and Mike Archinal of New Philadelphia; Granddaughters, Christy Ayers of Arkansas, Stacy Schneider of Strasburg and Jenny Archinal of New Philadelphia; ten great grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille (Don) Mathias and Carolyn (Tony) Mancuso and one sister-in-law, Sandy Maurer.Donald dearly loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as keeping an active community schedule.In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his brother Floyd Maurer. Friends may call at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia on Sunday, September 26, 2004 from 7:00 to 9:00PM. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home’s chapel on Monday, September 27, 2004 at 10:30AM with the Rev. Hugh Berry officiating. Burial will follow in Dover Burial Park.Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover OH 44622.
