Donald Lee Garner Sr., 88, of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, November 26, 2017 at New Dawn Retirement Community at Dover following a lengthy illness.
A son of the late Harley and Blanche (Carpenter) Garner, Don was born October 17, 1929 at Uhrichsville, Ohio.
Don was a veteran of the United States Navy having served as a Third Class Petty Officer during the Korean Conflict. He was employed at Dover Chemical where he retired after 27 years of service and he was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia.
He was an avid outdoorsman who especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and tending to his yard. He was a fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians but most of all he cherished spending time with his grandson, Joey.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Donald Jr. and Judy Garner of New Philadelphia and his grandson, Joe Garner of New Philadelphia.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis (Battalio) Garner whom he married on March 21, 1957; a sister, JoAnn Patterson; and a brother, Bob Garner.
In keeping with Don’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services and cremation will take place through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
