Donald A. “Foxy” Fox, age 66, of New Philadelphia passed away Friday evening, March 27, 2009 in Union Hospital at Dover.Born December 19, 1942 in Dover, he was the son of the late Donald and Dorothy Jane (Edwards) Fox. After graduating from Midvale High School, Don joined the United States Army where he honorably served his country. Then, he began his professional career as a grocery store manager, having worked at Teater’s IGA in Strasburg for 22 years and Mason’s IGA on Union Avenue in Dover for 10 years, before joining Stone Container. Most recently, he worked part-time as a custodian at the New Philadelphia V. F. W. Lodge.Don was a gentleman who loved spending time at family events, whether it was a bar-b-que or out on his pontoon boat at Atwood where he loved to fish and boat. He also enjoyed target shooting. Don also attended church at The Church of the Brethren in New Philadelphia and was a member of the N. P. Elks Lodge No. 510. and the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445.Don will be deeply missed by his wife, the former Una Hidey, whom he wed on September 30, 1989, nearly 20 years ago. He also leaves behind his family which includes his step-son, Roy James “R.J.” Simmers of Dover; sisters, Barbara (Larry) Blankenship of Willard, O., Sherry (Fred) Rausch of Midvale, Brenda (Jim) Rotondo of New Philadelphia and Tammy (Doug) Whitman of Strasburg; sisters-in-law, Darlene (Jack) Wolfe Sr. of Ashland and Martha (Bill) Kilchenman of Dover; brothers-in-law, Raymond (Claudia) Hidey and Eugene (Cindy) Harbaugh, both of New Philadelphia; his step-father-in-law, William P. Harbaugh of New Philadelphia; a cousin and special friend, Janis (John) Demattio of New Philadelphia; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Martha L. Harbaugh; and four brothers-in-law, Samuel Brady Hidey, James C. Hidey, John Eugene Hidey, and William Thomas Hidey.Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral celebrating Don’s life will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home chapel on Wednesday beginning at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Max Canfield officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia where the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445 will render military honors. Friends and family are invited to the Church of the Brethren, 700 Fair Ave NW, New Philadelphia, where a meal will be shared following the committal service.Don’s family requests memorial contributions in his memory be directed to either the New Philadelphia V.F.W.
