Donald Eugene Shalosky

June 20, 1934 — November 10, 2014

Donald Eugene Shalosky, a longtime resident of Tuscarawas, died Monday, November 10, 2014, in Park Village Health Care Center following a period of declining health.

Born at Newcomerstown on June 20, 1934, Don was a son of the late Lawrence and Bertha (Bordenkirker) Shalosky.

He was a graduate of Sacred Heart School at Coshocton and the Hobart Welding School. From 1954-1956, Don served as a member of the United States Army where he was assigned to the 4th Armored Division at Ft. Hood, Texas as a Tank Commander. He later worked for many years as a boilermaker

In 1958, Don married Jean Ann Roth. After their family was grown, Don and Jean enjoyed traveling and spending time with their grandchildren. They loved each other very much and shared everything until Jean preceded Don in death, following 45 years of marriage.

Don loved the craftsmanship of a well-made firearm. He spent many hours shooting with his family and his good friend, Bob Septer. Don was an accomplished gunsmith. Over the years he and Bob shared many adventures, and Don loved every one of them.

Don’s granddaughter Emily, an archaeologist, is grateful that her grandpa taught her to love history at an early age. Don loved God tremendously and taught his family to be courageous in life and in death.

He is survived by his family that includes a daughter, Linda (Kevin) Kate; three sons, Jack (Tammy) Shalosky of New Philadelphia, Tim (Sonja) Shalosky of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Patrick (Lisa) Shalosky of Columbus; his beloved grandchildren, Emily Jean Kate, Christopher and Thomas Shalosky and Adam Shalosky; two sisters, Eileen Somogey, Christina Apple, and three brothers, Robert, Steve and Thomas Shalosky and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Don was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Shalosky and two brothers, William and Richard Shalosky.

The family will greet guests on Thursday, November 13, 2014 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where a Christian Wake Service will begin at 7:45 PM. Father Jeff Coning will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, November 14, 2014 at 10 AM in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial, alongside his wife, will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery where military honors will be rendered.
