Donald Eugene Rieger, 85, of Sugarcreek, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at his home.
A son of the late Herman and Helen (Heid) Rieger, Donald was born June 3, 1928 at Dover, Ohio.
Donald graduated from Dover High School in 1946. He then entered the United States Army on January 11, 1952 and served in England until receiving his honorable discharge on December 17, 1953. In 1955, he started working for Marlite and eventually retired in 1989.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at Dover. Donald was also a member of the Dover V.F.W., the New Philadelphia Moose and the Dover Eagles.
He is survived by his nieces, Linda (Tony) Callahan of Georgia and Debbie (Larry) Troyer of Dover; his nephews, Jerry (Pam) Rieger of Arkansas, Dale Rieger of Canton and Dennis Rieger of Dover; many great nieces and great nephews and his faithful companion, his dog, Buddy.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth H. Rieger.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 1, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Jimmy Hatfield celebrating. Burial will follow in the old Calvary Cemetery on 6th Street in Dover.
Contributions may be made in Donald’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
