Donald Earl Bell, 73, of New Philadelphia passed away unexpectedly Sunday, January 3, 2016 at his home.
A son of the late Edwin and Gertrude (Tedrick) Bell, Donald was born October 17, 1942 in Union Hospital at Dover.
Don was a 1960 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. Soon after graduation, he completed his apprenticeship and became a machinist with the Timken Company, where he retired after 42 years of service. In 1966, he was drafted into the United States Army and was assigned to the 177th Maintenance Company prior to his honorable discharge in 1968.
In his spare time, Don enjoyed the outdoors. He liked to fish, hunt, and camp with his friends and family and was a member of the B & A as well as the Tusco Rifle Club. Additionally, he enjoyed spending time volunteering for Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County.
He is survived by his wife, the former Marsha Bernhart, whom he married on June 21, 1964; a daughter, Shawna (Todd) Guthrie of West Lafayette; a brother, David (Michelle) Bell of Toledo; a nephew, Mike (Susie) Bell of New Philadelphia; a niece, Shelly (Larry) Litman of Dennison and many other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by a nephew, Greg.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 from 4-7PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Don’s life will be led by Pastor Matt Slater in the funeral home’s chapel on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
