Donald Dean Devore

Donald Dean Devore, 82, of New Philadelphia, died suddenly in his home, Wednesday, March 17, 2004.Born in Uhrichsville July 30, 1921, he was a son of the late Harry Lonnie and Ethel Garnet Moore Devore. Following High School, Donald served in the United States Air Force during World War II. Private First Class Devore worked as an airplane and engine mechanic, and received the American Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Ribbon and the Victory Medal.In 1985, Donald retired from Warner & Swasey (now Gradall) after a thirty-four year affiliation with the company. Together with his wife of fifty years, the former Barbara J. Slocum, he raised a family that includes daughters Connie (John) Douglas of Coshocton, Cindy (Michael) Weigand of Uhrichsville; and three sons, Donald (Lori) Devore of Coshocton, Ricky (Connie) Devore of Dennison, and James (Julie) Devore of New Philadelphia. He’ll be sadly missed by fifteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Harry (Margaret) Devore of Florida; a sister, Kathryn (Bill) Goshorn of Tuscarawas; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Donald is preceded in death by two grandchildren, Ryan and Jaclyn Douglas; a sister, Doris, and a brother, Sidney. Friends are invited to call Saturday from 11am to 1pm at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory, New Philadelphia. Pastor Larry Fletcher of the First Assembly of God will officiate Mr. Devore’s funeral service Saturday at 1pm in the funeral home’s chapel. Military Graveside Services and burial will follow at East Avenue Cemetery. A reception will follow the committal service at the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home.
