Donald Alfred Dessecker, 89, of New Philadelphia, died in Union Hospital at Dover on Wednesday morning, June 5, 2002. Donald was born February 27, 1913, a son of the late Clarence W. and Millie M. Newton Dessecker. He was employed with Greer Steel in Dover, retiring in 1978. Donald was a former member of the United Steel Workers Union and a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Philadelphia. He enjoyed being a mobile meals driver, sharpening lawn mowers and was the “jack of all trades, but master of none.”He is survived by his wife, Grace Anita Freshwater Dessecker, whom he married March 24, 1940; children, Beverly (Robert) Wilcoxon of Mineral City, Darryl A. (Linda) Dessecker of Hiddenite, North Carolina, Sam J. (Sally) Dessecker of Mentor and Rick L. of New Vienna, Oh.; sisters, Mrs. Treva Mulheim of Canton and Mrs. LaFerne Cochran of Ocala, Florida; 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, an infant son and brothers Carl and Russell Dessecker proceeded Donald in death.Funeral services will be held Friday, June 7, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Philadelphia with Rev. Michael Walters officiating. Burial will be at Ridgecrest Memory Gardens in Dover. A reception will follow at the church. Visitation will be Thursday, June 6th, 2002, from 6:00 Â? 9:00 p.m. at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia and Friday from 1 Â? 2 p.m. in the church. Emmanuel Lutheran Church Council services will be conducted at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover, OH, or the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 202 East High Avenue, New Philadelphia, OH.
