Dola Jean Shanower

Dola Jean Shanower, age 80, of New Philadelphia, passed away early Monday, May 3, 2010 in Country Club Retirement Center at Dover.Born August 8, 1929 in Ragersville, O., she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Alverda (Emig) Zimmerman. She graduated from Sugarcreek-Shanesville High School in 1947.On August 23, 1947, Dola married her loving husband, Bert “Ed” C. Shanower in the Zimmerman home. Together they enjoyed vacationing in Florida. Dola was a member at The First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia, T.O.P.S. and the Birthday Club.Dola will be deeply missed by her husband Ed; her children, Judy (Bob) Yakley, Don (Rebecca) Shanower, Ralph (Terri) Shanower, all of New Philadelphia and Ray (Barbara) Shanower of Strasburg; her two sisters, Arlene (Don) Matchett of New Concord, O. and Gail (Frank) Rossi of Dover; her brother, Jim (Bernice) Zimmerman of Brightwood; her grandchildren, James (Leann) Yakley of Dover, Stephanie Yakley of Uhrichsville, Shane Shanower of Stone Creek, Shana (David) Norman of New Philadelphia, Rocky (Courtney) Shanower of Sugarcreek, Sarah (Scott) Whiddon of New Philadelphia, Eddie Shanower of Sugarcreek, and Randy Shanower of Austin, Texas; her step-grandchildren, Ryan (Cindy) Beach, Matthew (Darcee) Beach, and Taylor Beach; her great-grandchildren, Ava, Aiden, Evan, Mallory, Rigsby, Silas, Scenic, Brendan; one step-great-grandchild, Willow; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.Visitation will be held in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 from 4 to 8 p.m. and again one hour prior to the service on Thursday. A service celebrating Dola’s life will be held the funeral home on Thursday, May 6, 2010 beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Jeff Gerber and Jill Lovett officiating. Burial will follow the service in Dover Burial Park at Dover.
