Dewey M. James, Sr., 75, of New Philadelphia, passed away Thursday afternoon, November 21, 2013, following a period of declining health.
Born in Wyandotte, Michigan on March 7, 1938, he was the son of the late Daniel and Mabel Faye (Sperling) James.
Dewey worked as a front end load operator in the coal mines for 29 years. He also enjoyed taking care of his yard, gardening, and scrapping.
Dewey is survived by his children, Sally (Kevin) Marshall, Dewey (Sherry) James, Jr., Harold (Joni) James and Rick James, all of New Philadelphia; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren with one anticipated in January; and his siblings, Erma Ohler of Aloah, OR, Daniel Larry James of Denver, CO, Sylvia (Larry) Cross of Uhrichsville, Margaret (Pat) Alexander of Montrose, VA, Carolyn Barker of Tagared, OR, Carl (Barbara) James of New Philadelphia, and David (Susan) James of Princeton, WV.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth and Harold; 1 grandchild; and 1 great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. A service celebrating Dewey’s life will begin at 3 pm with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Cremation will take place following the service through Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory. Private inurnment at East Avenue Cemetery will take place at a later date.
