Denzel O. Pool, age 87, of Dover and formerly of Canton, died Tuesday, July 06, 2010, in Schoenbrunn Health Care Center at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.A son of the late Samuel O. and Sarah “Goldie” (Eckelberry) Pool, Denzel was born at New Matamoras, Ohio on November 27, 1922.Following graduation from Lawrence High School at New Matamoras, Denzel served as a member of the United States Navy from January, 1943 to February, 1946. He was an Aviation Machinist having been stationed at Great Lakes, Illinois and assigned to serve aboard the USS Intrepid. On July 27, 1949, Denzel married the former Mary Ellen Brannan in St. Peter’s Church at Canton and together the couple raised two children.Denzel was employed by the East Ohio Gas Company where he held the position of inspector and retired in December of 1985, following thirty-seven years of service.As a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses New Philadelphia Congregation, Denzel dedicated his life to Jehovah God through the water of baptism. He often shared his hope of Resurrection and better conditions on Earth under God’s Kingdom soon to come. His hope is to rest in sleep until Jehovah restores the Earth to a beautiful paradise.He put much faith in the words of Psalm 37:10, 11 and Matthew 5:5 where he speaks of the meek inheriting the Earth and John 11:11-44 which tells of the Resurrection Hope.In addition to his wife of nearly sixty-one years, Denzel is survived by his loving family which includes a daughter, Debra (Darryl) Swier of New Philadelphia; a son, Scott (Chris) Pool and two sisters, Gladys Hackathorn of Navarre, Ohio and Mary Louise Wiltshire of Canton, Ohio.A granddaughter, Irene Pool; two grandsons, Shannon (Laurie) Swier of Warren, Michigan and Michael Pool as well as two great-grandchildren, Garrett Swier and Tora Wilson complete the family.In addition to his parents, Denzel was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Kirkbride and a brother, Harold Pool.The family will receive friends on Friday, July 9, 2010, from 6:00 â?? 8:00 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover and again one hour prior to services on Saturday, from 9:00 â?? 10:00AM. Mr. Alan Stutzman will lead a funeral service at 10:00 AM in the Dover Funeral Center. Immediately following the service a reception will be shared in the Hospitality Room of the Geib Funeral Center at Dover.A committal service, in the North Lawn Cemetery, 4927 Cleveland Ave NW Canton, Ohio 44709, will take place on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 1:30 PM.The family requests that memorial contributions in Denzel’s name be directed to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1212 Kelly NW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663 or to Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Drive, Uniontown, Ohio 44685.
