Denton O. Clagg

Denton Otto Clagg, 86, of Midvale and formerly of Milton, West Virginia, died Sunday, February 21, 2016 in Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia follow a period of declining health.

A son of the late Gilbert and Hester (Nida) Clagg, Denton was born March 10, 1929 at Milton, West Virginia.  At the age of 20, Denton moved to Ohio.

In his younger years, Denton was employed at Evans Brick Yard at Midvale and eventually retired from Shenango at Dover.  Following his retirement, he enjoyed parking cars at Midvale Speedway and he also worked at Midvale Park.

He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with Shane and Bubba Burdette.  He also enjoyed “tinkering” with projects around his home.

In addition to his parents, Denton was preceded in death by his wife, Erma (Hunter) Clagg whom he married on March 17, 1956.  He is also preceded in death by his daughter, Joann Clagg Locker; a sister, Shirley Morrison Short and a special brother-in-law and best friend, Andy Cihon.

Denton is survived by a sister, Lola Clagg Chapman of Barboursville, West Virginia; a brother, Clifford Clagg of Hurricane, West Virginia; a special niece and her husband, Diana and Jim Sims of Midvale as well as many other nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.  A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Brian Flood officiating.  Burial will follow in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
