Dennis “Denny” William Hockenberry, age 72, went to be with the Lord while in the arms of his loving wife on February 20, 2023. He fought a long courageous battle with cancer.
Denny was born on September 20,1950 in Mount Vernon, Ohio to the late Wallace and Louise Hockenberry. His early journey in life saw him from Mount Vernon (North Liberty), Ohio where he spent his childhood and youth. Denny graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1969 and he retired from the Ohio State Highway Patrol in 2003 after 31 years of service.
Denny enjoyed fishing, sports, and other outdoor activities. He also enjoyed fellowship with friends and church family, and most of all spending time making memories with his family. He was an active member of The New Philadelphia Church of the Nazarene where he loved praising the Lord and singing in the choir, performing solos, and participating in other ensembles. Denny and his devoted wife of 53 years, Linda, also served as youth leaders for many years.
Denny is survived by his wife Linda, sons Bryan (Amanda) Hockenberry and Chad (Charity) Hockenberry, brother Jim (Susan) Hockenberry, sister Dr. Marilyn Hockenberry (Patrick Barrera); four grandsons, Cole, Austin, Connor, and Bennett, and granddaughter Caylee.
Denny was preceded in death by his granddaughter Flower Hockenberry.
The family will receive friends and family on Saturday, February 25 from 1:30 to 3:30 pm in the New Philadelphia Church of the Nazarene at New Philadelphia where a celebration of Denny’s life will begin at 3:30 PM with Pastor Terry Kidd officiating.
The family requests that memorial contributions, in Denny’s memory, be directed to The Blessings Fund, c/o New Philadelphia First Church of the Nazarene, 233 Fair Ave. NE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
