Dennis R. “Gooter” McCahill, age 72, of New Philadelphia died Thursday, October 29, 2015 in Lafayette Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at West Lafayette following a period of declining health.
A son of the late Dennis and Mary Reichman McCahill, Gooter as he was known to all since childhood, was born in Union Hospital at Dover on September 18, 1943.
He was a graduate of the former Tuscarawas-Warwick High School and entered the workforce having been employed by the former IF Ridge Tool, Schilling Electric, W.W. Henry Company and retired from Allied Machine & Engineering at Dover in 2010. Gooter loved being an electrician and through all of his years he never thought of any job as work but as fun.
Being an individual who truly never met a stranger, Gooter loved socializing with others and sharing his personality with those around. He enjoyed helping others whenever and wherever needed, spending time with his family, fishing in Canada, cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes, and following NASCAR.
He is survived by his daughter, Lori McCahill of New Philadelphia; his grand-dogs, Bogey and Ella May; siblings, Ronald (Marti) McCahill of Dover, Ann (Robert) Craig of Uhrichsville, Shirley Sinkovich of Baltic, Harold (Mary) McCahill of New Philadelphia, Barb (Roy) Schilling of Sugarcreek, Karen (Dave) Green of Midvale; a sister-in-law, Brenda McCahill and a brother-in-law, Dennis Urfer both of New Philadelphia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and their families.
In addition to his parents, Gooter was preceded in death by his wife, Linda; their daughter, Chrystal Kay McCahill; and siblings, Mary Lou Ridgeway, Janice Urfer, and Charles “Chip” McCahill.
In keeping with his wishes there will be no public visitation or services. Private inurnment will take place in the Ridgecrest Memorial Gardens at Dover. Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory is handling cremation care.
