Dennis Leroy Menefee, age 80, of Gnadenhutten, died Thursday, February 04, 2016, while in the care of Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia, following a period of declining health.
A son of the late James Richard Lee and Cora May Belle (Reynolds) Menefee, Dennis was born at Wirt County, West Virginia on December 25, 1935.
A 40 year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 18, Dennis worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed keeping himself active by gardening, fishing, mowing, playing poker, attending auctions, and being with his family and friends.
He will be missed by his wife and companion of 46 years, Margaret K. Menefee; his sons, Gary Menefee of Newcomerstown, Timothy Menefee and Dennis Menefee, Jr. both of Port Washington; his sister, Bessie Fensler of Dover; his grandchildren, Corissa, Brandon, Joyce, Joe, T.J, Nathan, Chrystal, Dennis, Madyson, Emma Lynn, and Drake as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his sisters, Flora and Fanny Menefee, Ruby Maze, Edna Bunner, Violet Mathias, Nellie Slentz, and Flossy Copen; and his brothers, John, Gail and Harley Menefee.
The family will greet guests one hour prior to a memorial service on Saturday, February 13, 2016 from 9:30-10:30 AM in the Linn-Hert Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where Rev. Hugh B. Berry will lead a service beginning at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery at Port Washington.
