Dennis L Wolfe

February 7, 1940 — April 7, 2012

Dennis L. Wolfe, 72, of New Philadelphia passed away suddenly, but peacefully in New Dawn Rehabilitation Center at Dover Saturday morning, April 7, 2012.

Born in New Philadelphia on February 7, 1940, he was the son of Margaret “Peg” (Dennis) Wolfe of Dover and the late Dale E. Wolfe.

He was a 1958 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and then joined the United States Navy following graduation. He was honorably discharged in 1962.

Denny was a machinist during his professional career with Invincible Vacuum and in maintenance with MRS Inc., prior to his retirement. He was also presently a shareholder in Green Valley Golf Course.

An avid and loyal New Philadelphia Quaker, Denny will long be remembered as “Mr. Chili”, serving hundreds of bowls of chili at his home on the day of the New Philadelphia/ Dover football game. On that day or any time throughout the year, Denny could be found enjoying his porch swing. He often had friends and neighbors stop by to socialize. He also filmed for the football team for 30 seasons.

In addition to his love of the Quakers, Denny was an active member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge #510 at New Philadelphia. He was a Past Exalted Ruler and also past president of the bowling league.

His family includes his children, Elizabeth Wolfe Bridges and Wendy (partner, Beth K. Hillyer) Wolfe, both of Newark, and Dennis (Stacy) Wolfe of Austin, Texas; his step-grandson, Kole; his best friend forever, Rae Ann Dabel of New Philadelphia; his brother, Dale “Sonny” (Cecelia) Wolfe of Michigan; his aunts, Mary West and Hilda Betche, both of New Philadelphia; and his uncle, Floyd Dennis of New Philadelphia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Denny was preceded in death by his father, the late Dale E. Wolfe.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 12, 2012 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Lodge of Sorrow will commence at 7:45 p.m.

A service celebrating Denny’s life will be held in the funeral home’s chapel on Friday at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Max Canfield officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.

Friends are invited back to the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home, where chili and garlic bread will be served following the committal service.
