Dennis L. Hidey, 50, of Dover, died Wednesday, October 2, 2002 at Mercy Medical center in Canton from an apparent heart condition.Born in Dover, he was the son of the late Wayne Hidey and is survived by his mother, Mabel Reese of North Carolina. Dennis was a 1971 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and was a U.S. Army veteran having served during Viet Nam as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. He worked in hydraulic maintenance with Sun State Plastics in North Canton. He was a member of the Dover Army-Navy and a former member of the Dover V.F.W. and New Philadelphia V.F.W. Dennis loved drag racing and had raced at both Magnolia and the former Drag way 42 and also had raced in the street stock class at Midvale Speedway. He also enjoyed restoring classic cars and riding motorcycles.In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, the former Rosemary J. Maloney whom he married May 7, 1994; a son, Todd (Laurie) Hidey of Dover; a step-daughter, Kim (Kevin) Kaswinkel of New Philadelphia; a step-son, Larry Tope of Winesburg; two brothers, Jerry Hidey of Chicago, Illinois and Ron Hidey of Tucson, Arizona and five grandchildren, Landon and Adam Cooper, Talor Hidey and Kaitlyn and Kamden Kaswinkel. A brother is also deceased.Funeral services will be held Monday, October 7, 2002 at 10:30 AM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia with Fr. William Arnold officiating. Burial will be at Dover Burial Park in Dover where the Dover V.F.W. will conduct military graveside services. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 6, 2002 from 2 to 5 PM in the funeral home.
